Real Perspectives: What We’ve Learned From the Moms of Stratfield

May 11, 2025

At Stratfield, we believe our people make us better—both as a team and as a partner to our clients. This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the women at Stratfield who manage both careers and motherhood, leading with empathy, resilience, and strength every day.

We sat down with a few of our team members to hear their honest take on what motherhood has taught them about leadership, balance, and what truly makes working parents feel supported.

The Joy of Traditions—Big and Small

While traditions may look different for everyone, our team shared some of their favorite ways to celebrate Mother’s Day.

For Erika Brady, Manager, Recruiting & Sourcing, it’s about being present:
“We don't have a typical Mother's Day tradition. For the last couple of years, we have been going to the Renaissance Festival or spent the day at a vineyard.”

Meghan Lewis, Marketing Consultant, says “My older daughter’s birthday is May 10 so since becoming a mom, every Mother’s Day weekend has been in celebration of her, which seems fitting. This weekend we are hosting 20 8-year-olds for karaoke! Image is her Taylor Swift birthday party last year)"

Angela Greenwell, Principal Consultant shared that her favorite Mother's Day memory was when "My children bought me lego flowers and then put them together for me in a vase."

And for Libby Pollock, Practice Leader, Change Management, the best moments are personal and simple: “Honestly, it’s the homemade cards. Every year my kids make them for me, and they are the one thing I will never throw away.”

Lessons in Flexibility and Letting Go of Perfection

For many of the women we spoke to, motherhood has taught them how to adapt in ways they never expected.

“Letting go of perfection,” Alexa Ellis, Practice Leader, Marketing & Growth, shared. “I am much, much better at asking for help than I was before I had children.”

Angela added, “You learn that you can't do it all—and that’s okay. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed.”

Libby noted that balance isn’t just about work and family—it’s also about taking care of yourself. “Balance includes making sure I get enough sleep, move my body, and take time for myself. You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

Making Room for What Matters

When asked what makes them feel supported as working parents, our team members didn’t hesitate to call out Stratfield’s flexibility and understanding.

Alexa Ellis shared “I feel very supported by Stratfield because our organization really accommodates working parent schedules. Recently, our CEO, Butch Benford, urged me to focus on volunteering at my son’s school while he helped me get a work deliverable out on time.”

This mindset is something Dixie Palmer, HR Assistant, said she feels every day. “I never feel judged for needing to shift my schedule when my family needs me. It’s empowering to be trusted to manage my time.”

Why Moms Make Great Consultants

Motherhood builds skills that show up in the workplace every day.

“Moms are natural project managers,” Erika explained. “You’re constantly juggling competing priorities, timelines, and people’s needs—whether it’s in your house or with your clients.”

Angela agreed, noting that moms bring a unique level of empathy to their work:
“Being a mom makes you more compassionate and understanding of the challenges people face, and that carries over into how you work with clients and teams.”

One Word to Describe the Value Moms Bring to the Workplace

When asked to sum it up in one word, here’s what they had to say:

  • Alexa Ellis: “Empathy.”

  • Libby Pollock: “One word? Resilience. No, Empathy! Adaptability? Efficiency??"

  • Meghan Lewis: “Grit. Moms know how to make things happen, through anything.”

  • Erika Brady: “Everything! A mom brings everything to the workplace.”

  • Angela Greenwell: “Sunshine. Women know how to bring magic and beauty to the world.”

  • Dixie Palmer: “Adaptable.”

A Final Word of Gratitude

To the moms at Stratfield—and all working parents—thank you for showing us what leadership, balance, and perseverance really look like. Your dedication at work and at home inspires us every day.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Stratfield Consulting.
